The September Jam varied greatly from the usual DJSLC format…we hosted two bands; our standard Royal Garden Dixieland Jazz Band followed by The Beer Parlor Ramblers led by Bobby Tuba (Bob Schanhals of Aiken, SC).  He hand-picked his “cohorts in jazz”

The Jazz Corner

features music seven nights

a week…and the meals are outstanding.

which included Savannah’s own, drummer Buddy Kosic and multi-talented Royce Johnson, our own Bob Masteller, varying vocalists, and Bobby on tuba. They were joined by Steve Butter (soprano sax) and Armin Meier (trumpet).

The Nominating Committee acknowledges with gratitude the service of Bob Masteller and Rick Radcliff, who have completed their terms as members at large.

Welcome to our new Members:

Between sets, Vice President Tom Dauch presided over the Annual Meeting.  The Board of the DJSLC, directed the previously authorized contribution to the Junior Jazz Foundation of $2000 toward jazz studies of primarily elementary and middle school students with less emphasis on the high schools. The Board approved the transfer of The Ted Hammond Memorial Fund, $700, to The Junior Jazz Foundation (see NewsPg4 ) to assist in the education of a future bassist(s).

The attending members of the DJSLC approved the following slate of officers for 2009-2011:

 Executive Committee:

Alan Waitley – to serve as President

Tom Dauch – to serve as Vice President

Ted Druhot – to serve as Treasurer

And, hey, it’s time again to dress up a little

 for Halloween

The Prez Sez: Not only do I wish to thank all the musicians and band leaders who perform on “Last Sundays”, but in particular a few members who make it “work”.  Abbie Campbell, Tom Dauch, Ted and Carol Druhot, and Armin Meier are always there to help behind the scenes.  And a special thanks to the audience; we couldn’t do it without you!
